Jonathan A. Kuhn, CFP®

Managing Partner and Financial Advisor

Why did you choose financial planning as your profession?

When I was in middle school, I developed an early interest in the stock market through conversations with my grandfather. He would show me his investment statements, and together we'd watch the evening news as the stock tickers scrolled across the bottom of the screen. We'd also check his stocks in the daily newspaper. I became captivated by the idea of saving and investing. In my senior year of high school, my grandfather made me a deal: he would match whatever I saved from my summer job. I managed to save $3,500, and to my surprise, he kept his word and matched it. I used that money to help pay for college. From early on, I knew I wanted to support people with more than just investments, which led me to pursue a degree in financial planning. One of my most influential professors was a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® practitioner, which solidified my passion for the field. Helping clients gain clarity and peace of mind around their entire financial lives has always been my goal—and it's incredibly rewarding to see them achieve it.

What are some important things to consider when choosing a financial advisor?

When selecting a financial advisor, the most important factor is choosing a firm that acts as a fiduciary—meaning they are legally and ethically obligated to put your best interests first. Equally important is finding someone with whom you feel personally comfortable, as this should be a long-term relationship built on trust, transparency, and honest conversations, even about difficult topics. Your advisor should also be accessible and communicate in a way that suits your preferences. Look for someone with a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® (CFP®) designation, which signals a high level of training and professionalism. Lastly, make sure they have the experience necessary to address the specific complexities of your financial situation.

What are you a fan of?

I am deeply passionate about wine. The more I learn, the more I realize how vast and nuanced the world of wine truly is. One thing I’m certain of is that farmers are some of the smartest and most dedicated people out there. I’m fortunate to have a wine cellar with over 3,000 bottles, but for me, wine is much more than a collection—it’s about bringing people together. Sharing good food and wine creates a space where we focus on our common ground rather than our differences. When friends come over, I love searching for the perfect bottle that matches the mood, weather, menu, or even the music playing. It’s incredibly gratifying to introduce people to new styles of wine and watch their appreciation grow.

I am also a huge fan of sunsets. If you looked through my camera roll, you’d find that about a third of my photos are sunset shots. There’s something so peaceful about watching a sunset unfold—and I often find myself captivated even long after the sun dips below the horizon.
