Nancy D. McKee, CFP®

Partner and Financial Advisor

Why did you choose financial planning as your profession?

From a young age, I have always been interested in money and math. As a teenager, I subscribed to Money magazine, which frequently featured stories about families and their financial challenges, along with advice from three financial planners. This section of the magazine captivated me, and I realized that I wanted to become a financial advisor. Since graduating from college, I have been working at Allegheny Financial Group.

What do you think are the most important steps people can take to improve their financial well-being?

When you track your spending and analyze it, you begin to retrain your brain's spending habits. Many of the things we buy are unnecessary, impulsive, or a result of habit. By examining your expenses and questioning whether you truly need each item, you start to change your spending patterns. If you consistently spend less than you earn, you are on the right path to achieving financial freedom.

How do you like to spend time outside of the office?

I have a variety of interests, including gardening, hiking, attending classes, working on DIY projects, sewing, traveling, dancing, cooking, bike riding, creating art, and participating in local events. I enjoy being active and keeping busy, no matter what the activity is—I’m game. Additionally, I volunteer as an usher through the Cultural District, so you might see me at a play, concert, or the Three Rivers Arts Festival.

What causes or community organizations are important to you?

I support the local parks and Tree Pittsburgh. Every year, I plant trees and do my part to increase our forests. Trees are a vital part of our society and as fast as a storm knocks them down, new trees need to be planted. Additionally, I occasionally volunteer at the Greater Pittsburgh Food Bank and 412 Food Rescue.
